Fire crews have been tackling a large
fire on a trading estate in Littleton. They were sent to the Brett
Trading Estate, in Littleton Lane, Shepperton, just before 1840 BST on
Saturday, after reports of 80 tonnes of rubbish alight.
The fire then spread to industrial buildings, some containing acetylene
cylinders. That led to an exclusion zone being put in place at the
site. Surrey Fire and Rescue said Heathrow Airport had to be advised
as smoke was drifting in that direction. But a spokesman for the
airport said it had not affected any arrivals or departures.
He added that the airport had sent one of its own fire engines to help
deal with the blaze. On Sunday morning, the fire was still being
tackled, with people living nearby being told to keep their windows
closed. Fire crews were expected to remain at the site all day.
No-one was injured in the fire, the cause of which is unknown.
