Police are hunting a burgler who tried to smash his way into a Shepperton home armed with a brick.

Spelthorne detectives have released a CCTV image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the burglary.

Officers spotted the man on a petrol station CCTV camera at the Esso garage, Walton Bridge Road, Shepperton around the time of the burglary.

Police believe the man tried to break in to the home on Gordon Road between 8.55am and 1.45pm on January 22 using a brick taken from the back garden.

Officers have carried out house to house enquiries
in the area and a member of the Shepperton and Halliford Safer Neighbourhood Team visited the victim to provide reassurance and security advice.

Detective Constable Simon Egan, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are keen to speak to the male as we believe he may have vital information to help us with this ongoing investigation.

“I am very hopeful that the release of such a clear image will encourage the male to come forward and I would encourage anyone who knows the male to contact us as well.

“Fortunately on this occasion nothing was taken as the offender failed to gain entry to the property.”
