SEVERAL wild swans have been shot in two separate air rifle incidents in north Surrey during the past week.

Two swans were found critically injured in the Watersplash Road ford in Shepperton on January 13 having been shot in the face and neck.

This incident follows the shooting dead of a swan and several coots on a frozen pond near Abbeyfields in Thameside, Chertsey, on January 10.

Police said they believed all of the birds were shot with an air rifle and a £500 reward has been offered for information leading to the successful prosecution of those responsible.

Pc Geoff Dillon said: “I would appeal for anyone with information regarding these acts of cruelty to contact Surrey Police.

"We will not tolerate violence of any form and would urge witnesses to come forward – there will be members of the community who know who is responsible for these incidents.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222.
