Shepperton Studios

For more than sixty years Shepperton has been the home of some of the all time great “British” movies; Richard III, The Third Man, Becket, Oliver!, Anne of a Thousand Days, A Man for All Seasons, Anna Karenina and The Guns of Navarone, are among the numerous great International films made here. 

In the more recent past, titles have included Sideny Pollack;s Out of Africa, Ridley Scotts Alien, Lord Attenborough's Cry Freedom, Chaplin, Shadowlands and In Love & War, Kenneth Branagh's Henry V, Hamlet and Love's Labours Lost, Kevin Costner's Robin Hood - Prince of Thieves, Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet, Brian Henson's The Muppet Christmas Carol and Treasure Island, Neil Jordan's The Crying Game and The End of the Affair, Nicholas Hytner;s The Madness of King George, Ang Lee's Sense and Sensibility, Richard Loncraines's Richard 111, Disney's live action 101 Dalmatians and Roger Michell's Notting Hill.

Three “Shepperton” movies, made in 1998, John Madden’s Shakespeare in Love, Shekhar Kapur’s Elizabeth and Anand Tucker’s Hilary and Jackie, were nominated and won numerous international awards, including many Oscars and BAFTA’s. 

Large Stages and complementary smaller ones provide facilities for hundreds of commercials every year. Many international award-winning advertisements have been made at Shepperton. Television films and programmes are becoming an increasingly important part of the business. Many repeat series have been recorded at Shepperton e.g. Red Dwarf, The Vicar of Dibley, Thomas the Tank Engine. Several three hour T.V. dramas include Gulliver’s Travels, The Odyssey, Cleopatra and Alice in Wonderland. 

New facilities, stages, theatres etc. are part of the major refurbishment programme Shepperton has embarked upon. Two new large sound stages ‘J’ and ‘K’ have been completed, allowing Shepperton to boast the greatest array of purpose built large stages in Europe and the building programme is continuing. Flexibility and service are the hallmark of the studios, enhanced by these new additions. 

Shepperton is also the home of over eighty specialist film/TV companies, providing services such as drapes, model making, agencies, camera hire, lighting and many others; even a dry cleaners! These companies provide a wide choice of facilities to support the Shepperton service.
