Local News Here's a little bit about me that was in the local paper. SUNBURY & SHEPPERTON HERALD A COMMUNITY-MINDED resident in Shepperton hopes a
new web notice board he has created will complement the Surrey police Ringmaster
system. Ringmaster is a police messaging system which calls people signed up to
a registered list and leaves messages to warn them of possible criminal activity
in their area. But it has come in for criticism for being inefficient, sending
garbled messages to registered members
in Leacroft, Staines. Derek Dunne, of Towpath,
Shepperton believes the Ringmaster system would work more effectively if it
worked in conjunction with an on line system rather than just on a telephone
network. Mr. Dunne, who is a member of
the Ringmaster system hopes his new website notice board will be of use to
Surrey police. He also hopes it will foster
closer links between the police, Neighbourhood Watch members and web-orientated
Spelthorne residents. His website was set up in
January after a series of crimes around Shepperton Lock Mr. Dunne, 36, a sales employee
at a lighting company in Feltham, said: “We had quite a bit of trouble at
Shepperton Lock last year which was quite upsetting. Tyres were being taken as
were radios. "Some of my neighbours asked me to create a bulletin board to
encourage people to swap information”. "I am also giving people
another option to get in touch with Neighbourhood Watch organisers and pass on
the information to the police. There are also links to their sites with general
information about protecting yourself and property. "It would also be good if
the police could use the site to post current crime prevention information." A spokesman for Staines police
said they would welcome any additional information about crime in the borough. "If people feel more
comfortable about going through this route we are happy for them to do so.
However, we do now have our own websites for Surrey police. "Our aim is to share useful
information with residents however it is achieved, but obviously people can also
approach us directly."
